Following the overwhelming success of the programs in Armenia, Latvia, and Uzbekistan, I am launcing an "Lithuanian Culture in Russian" program for a small group of 6 high intermediate to advanced Russian-language learners. We will travel to the beautiful city Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and study the country's history and culture in Russian while exploring the city and the coutryside. Write to me at [email protected] to inquire about program participation.
Program Structure:
The administrative side of this program is very simple. We each make our own travel arrangements to and from Vilnius and find our own accommodations in the city close to each other. (In our Uzbekistan program, participants decided to live in pairs, and it worked really well in terms of immersion in Russian and companionship.) I will rent a larger apartment with a big table around which we will meet Monday through Friday for 3 hours of class each day, some days in the mornings, and some days in the afternoons depending on our cultural program that day. We will speak only Russian in class meetings and on out of class outings.
In terms of course content, we will be reading and talking about Lithuania and its people in Russian, trying to figure out what is at the heart of this place. Our "classroom" learning will be enriched by our experiences in the city and the region, so that by the end of the program you will find that not only your Russian has improved, but you also have come closer to understanding the culture that just two weeks ago was foreign.
